SIGQ - Signalling Interest Group Queensland

Historical Information - 1900 to 1909

(1908) Gladstone,

A 20-foot lattice signal has been fixed on the Jetty branch at the end of Gladstone station yard, and has been brought into use. The method of working is as follows. When the junction points are in the “normal” position (lying for the main line) the signal on the Jetty branch is locked at “danger”. When the SM makes the road for the Jetty branch, he will take the key from the cabin as usual, unlock the junction points, and make the road for the Jetty branch, thus releasing the signal. (WN 11-1908p2)

19-9-1908 Bundamba,

The Up Distant signal at Bundamba has been moved out about 200 yards, and an Outer Home signal has been placed between it and the existing Home signal. These signals were brought into use at 9.00am on Saturday 19-9-1908. (WN 15-1908p3)

(1908) Delivery of Train Staffs by Engine Drivers,

It has come under notice that the train staffs are not given up by the driver at the end of sections as carefully as they should be, with the result that the train staffs are knocked about and have to be replaced very frequently. Drivers and all concerned are to see that proper attention is given to this matter in future, and so avoid the extra expense in replacing train staffs. (WN 21-1908p1)

7-12-1908 Huxley,

Huxley was closed as a train staff and telegraph station on Monday 7-12-1908 and is now being worked as a gate. The sections Childers-Huxley and Huxley-Cordalba have been cancelled and the usual section Childers-Cordalba ordinary staff red diamond resumed. (WN 27-1908p3)

8-2-1909 Toowoomba,

On and after Monday 8-2-1908 the train staff and ticket will be worked from the signal cabin at Toowoomba instead of from the station. (WN 34-1909p4)

(20-4-1909) Gloucester Street,

With reference to General Order 3-09 dated 20-4-1909, the cabin and all signals, with the exception of the Up and Down Distant signals, have been removed from Gloucester Street and fixed at Vulture Street.

Gloucester Street.

The Distant signals at Gloucester Street will in future be worked from pullover levers fixed in the booking hall. The normal position of these signals will be “clear”. They must be placed at “danger” when trains stop at the station.

Vulture Street.

The signals at Vulture Street are as follows. The Up Distant is a lattice signal situated on the left of the line 450 yards from the cabin. The Up Home is a single arm lattice signal situated on the left of the line 161 yards from the cabin. The Up Starter is fixed above and on the same post as the Gloucester Street Up Distant being 225 yards on the Gloucester Street side of Vulture Street cabin. The Down Distant is on a wood post situated on the right of the line 347 yards from the cabin. The Down Home is a single arm lattice signal situated on the right of the line 84 yards from the cabin. The Down Starter is a single arm lattice signal situated on the right of the line on the Melbourne Street side of the cabin. These signals were brought into use at 10.00am on Tuesday 11-5-1909. (WN 48-1909p3)

(14-10-1909) Curra,

Telegraph call QF. At present only Distant signals are provided at this station but Home signals will be erected at an early date. In the meantime trains will be brought into the station by hand signal. (WN 70-1909p5)

(25-11-1909) Croydon Junction (Baddow),

At Croydon Junction the Home and Distant signals on the Gympie line and the Distant signal on the Bundaberg line have been shifted further out and placed on the right hand side of the line. The Home signal on the Bundaberg side has not been removed. (WN 76-1909p3)
